To enjoy your wool clothing for a long time, we have a few tips for you.
To prevent shrinking or stretching and to minimize pilling:
- Wash by hand in lukewarm water, maximum 5 minutes
- Wash inside out
- Use a dash of mild wool detergent
- Do not use fabric softener, but possibly a dash of almond oil
- Never put in the dryer
- Carefully roll in a towel and remove excess water
- Dry lying down on a towel, never hang up and not too close to the heater
- Smooth out any creases with a steamer or a steam iron (on wool setting) just above the garment
When taking it off, first take off the sleeves and then carefully pull the garment over your head; do not pull by the neck.
It is best to fold wool garments and put them in the closet and not hang them on a hanger.
It is normal for wool clothing to pill. Carefully remove the pills by hand or with a special wool comb; never with scissors. After doing this for 3 to 4 washes, the pilling will stop.
Never spray perfume or deodorant on your wool garment, as this will tar the wool fibres and attract moths.
To prevent moths, you can place a cedar block with your clothing. You should sand it down occasionally so that the scent remains clearly odourable.
